Baby quilt

Our Florida daughter is going to make us grandparents in September. Per her request, Cathy designed a baby quilt based on the Eric Carle series of baby books.

Cathy made her shopping bags of food fabric several months ago. I had zero participation in that project and I'm only showing you what the bags looked like as background for understanding the design of the baby quilt. However, the bags themselves are pretty awesome; they even have pockets that can be outside or inside the bag.

The quilt design combines the colorful food fabric that was such a hit in the shopping bags with the theme from The Very Hungry Caterpillar. There is a line of fabric based on the book, and several of the blocks are taken from that line. You can tell because they have a round caterpillar-eaten hole in them. But most of the fabric is from our collection of food fabrics, and in fact most are different from what was used in the cloth shopping bags. The caterpillar in the upper left is poised to eat through all of the food on the quilt.

The idea is to provide visual stimulus to the baby. I think this creation will accomplish that goal. My personal contribution was minor; I did the quilting.

There's a wall hanging, too. It is basically a storyboard of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. it's not quite done yet, and I had even less of a hand in it, but I expect you'll see it here at some point.
